Eggnog and Aphrodisiacs

There was something special about Snape's eggnog – Harry stared into the bottom of his cup, trying to figure it out.

"It's laced with an aphrodisiac, you dunderhead."

Snape's voice, as smooth as butter and as sharp as cloves – it melted down Harry's spine and he shivered. "Rum," he said, waving the cup aloft. "You put rum in it."

Harry tipped his head back – looking upside down at Snape gave him an interesting perspective on the man, he decided. Snape's sneer had turned into a smile, and his lips looked soft and kissable.

"I don't need an aphrodisiac," Harry said, with the air of confiding a great secret.

Snape's eyebrow twitched. "Well," he said, "if Weasley's charms wear off, you know where to come. If you pay me enough Galleons, I won't even tell Skeeter."

Harry let his cup fall to the ground, listening to it thud on the dull beige carpet. "Haven't shagged Ron," he said. "He's with Hermione."

Snape was close now, dark and looming – he tilted Harry's head up, peering into his eyes. "You don't appear to have been cursed," he said.

Harry leaned into his touch, turning to kiss his fingers. "Nope," he said, "just happy. Voldemort dead – you alive – everybody I love here for the party –"

"Potter," Snape said, snatching his hand back from Harry's face as though burned, "all of your friends left hours ago."

"I know," Harry said. Suddenly sober, he sat bolt upright and looked at Snape. "I know."

He reached for Snape, catching his hand and tracing the outline of each finger. Snape shuddered, and Harry brought his lips down to Snape's hand, kissing each fingertip.

"It would probably be best if I took you to St. Mungos," Snape said, but he made no move to step away from Harry. "This sort of dangerous insanity –"

"Your eggnog is really good," Harry said. Pulling Snape closer, he batted his eyelashes and cupped Snape's hand against his cheek. "Do you want to taste it on my lips?"

"That is the worst pickup –"

Harry put a finger over Snape's lips, and he fell silent, as though he'd been hexed into submission. "I saw the way you looked at me," Harry said. "By the pool that night – in a hundred memories – as you lay there in the Shack. I saw the way you looked at me, Snape. Don't try to tell me it meant nothing."

Then Snape's arms were around Harry, pulling him close, and Snape was all hard bones and taut muscles, his ribcage crushed against Harry's and his hipbones poking into Harry's stomach. He held Harry in a tight embrace, crushing the breath out of him, smashing their lips together in a rough kiss.

"You," Snape said, his lips pressed against Harry's cheekbone. "It was always you."

"I know." Harry turned his head, catching Snape's lips in another kiss – he made it gentle, he made it sweet, he made it last. Snape tasted faintly sweet, like eggnog.

"I didn't," Snape said, as if he had caught the edge of Harry's thought, "I didn't put an aphrodisiac in the eggnog, you know."

"I know." Harry grinned at him, steering him toward the stairs. Severus let Harry guide him, hair falling across his face as he walked backwards.

Under the mistletoe, Harry stopped them. He pointed up, and Severus snorted. "I suppose you expect something out of that ridiculous –"

"I'll take it as an excuse for a kiss," Harry said, and then as he led Snape up to bed, he stopped again. "You might put an aphrodisiac in the eggnog next year."
