All his life, nothing had been intended for Neville, to be his alone. His father's wand, his mother's smile – they'd not been meant for him, and he failed with them.

He had Herbology, but it wasn't for him. His mother had loved it, and he was given plants out of pity for her.

He had friends, almost as if they'd been meant for him – they'd left, together as they always had been. He'd been left to do his best.

When Gryffindor's sword came to him, it fit in his hands as though it were intended for him. It was perfect.
