Sorry it's taken awhile, but these were a bit tricky to write. A fluffy story, with no deranged characters ... het ... I'm still in the "OMG, I can't believe I wrote that" mode. But seriously, it's great to step outside of my usual comfort zone (the angsty Snarry box) and try something fresh - so thank you for the wonderful prompts!
Title: A Discussion of Dentistry
Author: lesyeuxverts00
Word Count: 500
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Harry/Severus
Prompt: The
theentwife suggested: "Harry tries to get Severus to go to the dentist."
Warnings: Fluff with no redeeming value.
Harry spreads the brochures out in a neat fan and considers the arrangement. The pictures of happy people remain motionless, and Harry frowns. The smiling Muggles look as though they’d be reduced to quivering blobs of jelly by three words and a hex from Severus.
He uses one of the brochures to cover the photos on the others. Harry settles into the armchair, picking up the book that Hermione had sent him and opening it to the middle.
“What are you doing, foolish boy?” Severus has come up behind Harry’s chair and he wraps long fingers around Harry’s shoulders, stroking his collarbones, breathing into his ear. “Cluttering up my chambers with Muggle nonsense, are you? What is all of this?”
“Hermione sent them to me,” Harry says, twisting free of Severus’s grasp. He takes Severus’s hand and begins to give it a gentle massage, kneading Severus’s palm. He sucks on Severus’s fingers, stroking the fingertips with his tongue. “She wants to make sure that I’m aware of all of the treatment options,” he says around his mouthful.
Severus pulls his hand away, fingers lingering on Harry’s lips. “What was that?”
“Hermione wants me to be aware of all of the treatment options,” Harry says, pulling on Severus’s hand. “She sent me a bunch of brochures about new improvements in dentistry and guides for proper care of your teeth.”
Severus leans on the back of the chair to peer down at Harry. “You aren’t considering going to a Muggle dentist, are you? Have you gone mad?”
Severus swoops down and lifts Harry, takes his place and settles Harry on his lap. Harry feels the flutter of Severus’s lips against his neck, the soothing circles of Severus’s fingers moving along his spine, and he snuggles into the embrace.
“What’s mad about going to a Muggle dentist?”
“Oh, Harry,” Severus said, his breath moist against the hollow above Harry’s collarbone. “Don’t you pay attention to anything?”
Fingers stroke along Harry’s arm, tracing irregular swirling paths and easing the sting of Severus’s words. “You’re a wizard, Harry, you do remember that much, don’t you?”
Harry presses his fingers into Severus’s back, moving up and down his spine, soothing the taut muscles. “Of course I do, you condescending bat.”
“I don’t suppose that you remember that being a wizard means that every cell in your body, every drop of your blood, every molecule of calcium in your teeth and bones, is permeated with magic, hmm?”
Harry prods a knot in the muscles of Severus’s left shoulder, eliciting a muffled yelp. “So what if it is?”
“Muggle dentists seem like medieval torturers, but they’re actually scientists, Harry my love. Give them one look at your teeth and you’ll reveal the secret of the wizarding world to the Muggles.”
“But …”
Severus stops his protests with a kiss, banishes the brochures and stands, lifting Harry in his arms and carrying him into the bedroom. “I’ll take you to the wizard dentist the next time we’re in Hogsmeade.”
Title: Without a Shadow
Author: lesyeuxverts00
Word Count: 400
Rating: PG
Pairing: umm. Hermione/Cedric, Hermione/Viktor, Cedric/Cho.
Prompt: For
maireadinish, who requested "something Rare-pairish (Cedric/Hermione or Ron or Viktor or Fleur or Someone/merperson) during the Tri-wizard second task."
Warnings: Er ... a bit of angst. I imagine that everyone's read Book 4 by now, but if you haven't, there's a hint of spoiler - no actual character death described.
The water trickles down Hermione’s cheeks, drips from her hair, pools around her feet, and the sun flashes off the small silvery puddles for an instant before Viktor steps closer, before Viktor’s shadow blocks the sunlight. Hermione shivers and Viktor helps Madam Pomfrey wrap her in a dry blanket.
Hermione looks up past Viktor to see Cedric standing in the sunlight, Cho’s hand on his shoulder. Even dripping, Cho is lovely, her wet hair flowing straight down her back, and Hermione looks away from them.
Viktor’s hands are warm, cradling Hermione’s chin, brushing the water from her cheekbones. He leans toward her, and they are breathing the same air, both of them dripping, cold, draped with the slimy clinging plants that thrive in the murky lake. Viktor’s lips brush against the rim of her ear as he whispers to her, a warm almost-kiss, but Hermione’s attention is on Cedric. She blinks, and then sees that Cedric has taken a step away from Cho, is standing alone in the shadows.
A look, a twitch of Hermione’s lips, and he’s reminded of their promise, their secret. Cedric steps back into the sunlight, allows Cho to curl her fingers around his neck. Hermione looks down at the shadowed puddles of water, hears Viktor’s whispered invitation, feels his fingers brush against her tangled hair, feels his fingers brush against her knuckles. Viktor is blocking the sunlight and she feels the chill of his shadow, the heat radiating from his body as he stands too close to her.
“I – I have plans for this summer,” she tells him, looking up past his shoulder, looking at Cedric. Viktor reaches for her hair, brushes a beetle out of the tangles, his fingers lingering, trailing down her neck.
Cedric is standing in the sunlight, the half-smile on his face that she loves, looking past Cho, looking at her. A tingle runs down Hermione’s spine, a swift rush of air fills her lungs, and she clutches the blanket around her. The sunlight gleams in Cedric’s hair, highlights his beloved cheekbones, and yet, as he stands there straight-backed and proud in the sunlight, he casts no shadow. There’s a breeze that blows in from the lake, chilling Hermione’s wet skin, sending goose-bumps running up her neck, ruffling Cedric’s hair. Hermione shivers and pulls away from Viktor’s solicitous touches, giving Cedric one last longing glance before she rejoins Ron and Harry.
