AN: Thanks to the slash-chat girls for the once-over! The title comes from the poem by Robert Frost.

There are gold flecks in the window, as bright and fleeting as the fin-flipping striped fish that dart through the waves. Lily comes to the church every day after they move, after all of the boxes have been moved to the center of the room and piled there in a pyramid. She finds space there, empty and open and uncluttered – where there's only the flecks of gold in the window, the chips of stained glass that reflect and scatter the light into mosaics on the floor.

In the air, there are hints of incense, the smell of sanctity lingering from other days, other quiet hours. There's nothing of the hustle and bustle of moving here.

The clutter of moving, the disarray of boxes and bags and the bright easy smiles that James gives her, she leaves it all behind when she comes to the church. Her feet ache, and she props them up on the kneeler and rests her hands on her knees, spreading her fingers and watching the light stream through them.

When James comes to find her, Lily smiles at him and lets him draw her out of the pew. Hand in hand, they walk to Godric's Hollow.
