The candles were floating in the bath when Harry came home, little pools of wax already gathered around the wicks. Draco wasn't there.
Stepping out of his shoes, Harry tested the temperature of the water and found it neither hot nor cold - almost perfect. It was only a few degrees cooler than the lukewarm temperature Draco preferred. He must have left recently, then.
The bathroom had been decorated for the winter season, with magical unmelting snow ringing the sunken tub and flame-flowers blooming in the sconces on the walls and casting bright reflections on the water. There was only one thing out of place - a Slytherin tie was lying on the floor, both ends pointing at the far door.
The chase was on. Harry's heartbeat thudded in his ears. Picking up one of the flame-flowers and brushing the silken petals against his lips, he set off in pursuit of Draco.
