Ooh, I had no idea it was beta appreciation day, but what a lovely idea! Every day should be beta appreciation day!

The first time that Harry touches Snape is when the man hands him the last Horcrux.

It’s a brush of fingers, knuckle against knuckle. It’s bony and prosaic and unromantic. Snape’s hands are dry and chapped, his fingers are pale and hairless, his fingernails are too long.

Harry bites his lip, watches Snape’s sharp gaze flicker to his mouth and linger there.

There’s no exchange of words or heat, no hexes, no promises. Snape reaches across the table to touch Harry again. It’s a brush of knuckle against knuckle and in that instant, that simple short connection, tomorrow becomes bearable.
