Two Teenyfics

Two teenyfics that I wrote for yesterday in my round of attempts to write something for [insanejournal.com profile] nest_of_spiders prompt "The magic of first love is our ignorance that it can ever end. - Benjamin Disraeli." They weren't quite working last night, but in my new&improved mood, I found the inspiration to actually finish them, so here you go! *hugs the wonderful flist*

Title: In His Bones
Author: lesyeuxverts00
Word Count: 531
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Remus/Sirius
Warnings: No DH spoilers
Disclaimer: Not mine.

There are four freckles on Sirius's left hip – Remus sees them in the shower and turns away, letting the water flow over him. It purifies him, warm enough to turn him pink and strong enough to wash away the soap.

In the Great Hall, Sirius pranks the Slytherins, turning their pumpkin juice into muddy water. He fends off hexes before he runs, pulling Remus back to the dormitories. They fall on his bed, breathless and bouncing on the feather comforter.

They serve detention together, Remus watching him by the moonlight filtered through the thick canopy of the Forbidden Forest. Sirius is solid in the dark, warm in the night, and Remus reaches for him, catching his elbow. Sirius turns to him with a smile, and Remus stammers an excuse.

Sirius drinks more than anyone after the Leaving Feast, and Remus refuses all of his offers. He won't share a flat with Sirius – he won't work for any of Sirius's cousins – he won't accept any of the charities that Sirius offers, obvious or subtle. He puts a hand on Sirius's shoulder for ten minutes, trying to coax him away from the drinks, and although he fails, the warmth pierces the layers of fabric between them, burning its way to a permanent heat in Remus's bones.

It takes months for Sirius to stop teasing James about Lily, and a week for him to organize the bachelor party. His smile is crooked, and he claps Remus on the shoulder, dragging him into the plans.

Sirius does not dance at the wedding. He looks at Lily with something akin to envy – he stays at James's side, distracting him with jokes and memories. He makes the toast and stumbles into Remus, afterwards. Champagne on his breath, he laments the loss of their quartet. Remus helps him home.

Eleven times – Sirius goes into danger without a word to Remus. There are no farewells. Remus knocks on his door until the echo is imprinted in his knuckles, a reverberation through his bones. When there is no answer, he knows that Sirius has gone. He wears a path into the park outside Sirius's building, and his feet press death onto the innocent grass. Each minute counts.

An armful of christening presents, a roomful of laughter – Sirius dotes on Harry. Remus watches him, learning a new smile and all the expressions in Sirius's language of love. It's a mute language, time spent together, bubbly smiles and gestures, Sirius letting Harry pull his hair and watching over him for hours on end. It's a language that Remus intends to learn.

Remus climbs the rickety stairs and breaks through the wards. Sirius's flat is a hobgoblin of mess and mischief. Papers, half-forgotten pranks, a whirlwind of clothes and books – Remus tidies it with efficient spell-work and sets a kettle to boil. He waits for hours, and the twilight shadows creep across the room before he leaves.

His bones ache, and the waxing moon pulls him through the night. Time marches on and Remus marches with it, creeping down the stairs. He knows the stairs to avoid, the creaks and quirks of the rickety old building. Silent, weary, Remus makes his way home.

Title: Finding Peace
Author: lesyeuxverts00
Word Count: 300
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Remus/Sirius, James/Lily
Warnings: No DH spoilers
Disclaimer: Not mine.

Remus found peace during the welcoming feast for the first time – in the midst of the chatter and laughter and glee, Nearly Headless Nick appeared at the table, floating up through Sirius.

Sirius was haloed for one moment, ethereal and eerie, his mischief washed away into something solemn and serene. His eyes took on a luminous glow, flecks of silver bright in his gray irises. He laughed, shuddering and mocking the cold, and his teeth sparkled in the ghost-light.

The halo was cast away when Nick drifted off to the first-years, but Remus stared at Sirius in the torchlight – skin cast in golden glow instead of silver mist, he was beautiful still.

He turned to look at Remus. A glance exchanged in a crowded hall, silence lingering in the uproar around them – nothing needed to be said. Remus flushed and looked away, and Sirius knew.

James flung a forkful of peas at Peter for the crime of "looking at Lily" and Peter retaliated with a crude joke. Lily enforced peace, ordering them both to "just grow up already," and silencing James with a kiss pressed to the back of his hand.

Sirius elbowed James in the ribs, making another joke at his expense, but at the same time, he reached under the table to touch Remus. Their feet slid together, Sirius slipping his foot out of his shoe and stroking Remus's leg.

He reached Remus's knees, forcing them apart and stroking his thighs. Remus stabbed his lip with his fork, peas falling onto the table, and Peter, who had taken the brunt of the spill, began pelting him with them.

A shudder ran through Remus, his temporary peace dispelled when Sirius said with a wink and another clandestine grope, "So, everyone finished with holiday assignments? What are we doing tonight?"
