Sea-salt and waves, almost real – Severus, his throat tight and aching, tried to pull the others away from the painting. This magic was not meant for them.
Lucy and Edmund, their faces white like bloated fish and their mouths gaping as they were drawn to the portrait, still found time to jeer at Severus. Blasted brats with more spirit than sense – he grasped Edmond's collar and Lucy's elbow, following them into the portrait.
Saltwater slapped his face before he went under the waves, holding fast to the struggling children. He'd save them if it was the last thing he did.
