Severus wakes at Potter's touch. Cold fingers fumble with his hand, a ring is slipped onto his fingers, and dry lips brush his forehead. He feigns sleep.
Dark-eyed and listless, Potter stirs jam into his tea, pouring sugar on his toast. Severus watches from the doorway.
The sugar spilling onto his lap, Potter looks up at Severus. "Thanks for making the Wolfsbane."
The ring glitters, a sharp-edged ruby set in gold that hums with warm protection spells. Severus struggles to take off the ring, but it is fixed, immutable.
"You'll always make it, won't you? You're mine forever," Potter says.
