YAY! All right, I have my computer back (which is made of SO much awesome I can't even describe it), and everything is working ... except Firefox, which is being a bit strange.

I can't get my bookmarks toolbar back, even though the bookmarks I want on it are still in the bookmarks toolbar folder, and I can't reinstall my del.icio.us buttons. Also, the bottom part of the window (the gray bar at the bottom) is larger than usual, and I can't change the size of it ... it's reducing the size of the actual window, and driving me half-mad. I flounced off and looked at IE, but I hate it. :(

I tried reinstalling and that did me absolutely no good at all. Anyone got a clue as to what's wrong and how I can fix it? Please?

If you right-click in the empty space on the on the top bar (File/Edit/View/etc), you should get a menu with checkboxes for "Navigation Toolbar" and "Bookmarks Toolbar." You should be able to turn it back on just by clicking on it.

I'm not sure what the issue with the status bar is, but you could try making sure that the config option "dom.disable_window_status_change" is set to true. To manage your configs, go to "about:config" -- start typing in the "filter" box to find an option, and double-click on the option to change its value. More on using the configs

As a last resort, you can uninstall Firefox and delete all your config files (google to find out where they are and what they're called), then try reinstalling. That'll wipe your bookmarks, though, so be sure to make a backup.

OMG, that's totally done it! Thank you so much - I always seem to forget to do a clean reinstall on Firefox, and needed someone to bonk me on the head and gently remind me. Yay, thank you!

I think I may be switching to Mac... more expensive, but teachers get a discount, so it's worth considering.

I like that I can still run some Windows/PC software on them, and they do seem to be less buggy than other computers.
