Two funny things!

Oh, *mom* )

-----

and ff.net ftw )

Yeah. That was my day. That, and the fact that I finished the second of two presentations in the past 7 days. Sorry I've not been around much - RL + modding has eated my LJ time. :(

Love you all, miss you madly, off to write for NaNo - only 13k behind, what? I can do it!

Eeep! It's winter already ... I need a hat, and possibly to give in and switch to my winter coat. I'm such a baby. :(

I've discovered a new character in my NaNo ... Anoinette's ex-bf, he's the occultist. I like him rather a lot already.

On the mystery of the tree identification, and other more gruesome matters )

*snuggles you all, because y'all are fabulous*

Okay, no smart cracks about how I always need help and what sort of help I need. No trips to the psychoanalyst for me, I have far too much work to do! *g*

So ... questions.

1. If an occultist were trying to determine whether a person was possessed or not, how would they go about doing this? Would there be a different protocol if they thought that the person was possessed by an evil spirit versus a neutral or beneficial one?

2. Those plants that look rather like cabbage but are sort of purple/green and used for ornamental purposes, are those kale? Or something else?

3. The leaves that are extremely narrow and short, with rounded tips, and that turn yellow in the fall ... what sort of tree do they come from? Do you have any idea what I'm talking about? They're about as wide as a pinky finger and about two knuckles long.

4. My MC, he needs a last name. His first name is Johann and he's a pianist with a scruffy goatee. He likes curry, lives with a messy artist roommate, and hangs out with this crazy chick named Antoinette. I feel very odd about the fact that most of my characters are lacking surnames, but I can't really think of any. Help?

a short excerpt, just because I am vastly amused by the crazy turns that it takes, at 3 AM, after too much Flannery O'Connor and not enough caffeine )

Where is this going? I have absolutely no freaking idea. I had no clue that the two sisters had strong religious views at the beginning of writing this story, and I have no idea how that came about or, hey, about anything. I think I need more sleep. And possibly an extra jolt of coffee tomorrow, mmm. :)

1. I hate NaNo with the fire of a thousand suns - and yes, it is really that bad ... my prose, I mean. *sigh*

2. Snarry Hols starts posting on Tuesday this week omg alskdjfla;dsjf;la YAY!

3. Meme, because I am procrastinating ... gacked from [insanejournal.com profile] schemingreader and [insanejournal.com profile] celandineb and [insanejournal.com profile] sansa1970 and people. And stuff, and things. Shiny things.

What are your three current favorites of the fics you've written? Post your answers as a comment here, explaining why you like your three stories, and then repost with the answers in your own journal. Include links so people can read what you're proud of!

everything except the blasted NaNo fic... no, really )
These are mostly recent, but probably they're the freshest things in my mind ... anyhow, it's nice to remember that I don't actually hate writing! I'd love to hear your favorites, too. :D

Anyhow, I'm going to be really busy this week, so I'll cheat and just tack an extra four things on ... that'll be my ten things for the week, all right?
four ... no, ten, really ... ten things )

I am not really sure where my pre-coffee ideas were coming from, but I have decided to abandon the 17th/18th century and go for the 19th century. I think I might go for this opera house, but I'm not 100% convinced about it yet. Given my flyaway sentences and paragraphs, it's also quite possible that the setting will never be explicitly mentioned. I've had sugar, and so I'm okay with that.

I have yet to find any sort of author search function on the website, and it's absolutely the slowest freaking thing I've ever had the misfortune to know ... well, by "ever" I mean since the days of modems and blah-blah-blah, computer things.... so here is a link direct to my profile, so feel free to add me as a friend if you like. I will probably post excerpts and such there, once I stop trying to kick the server.

It's turned out to be a great thing that I ended up writing original fic and not fanfic, since a couple of rl people have found out about NaNo already -- one of my close friends I told, and another girl saw me writing on the bus and asked about it. A wants to see a draft of it when I'm finished, but I'm not sure that it's a great idea ... I mean, is it? We'll see ... I wouldn't feel exactly comfortable about it, and I'm almost certain to have written something that will shock her.

Anyhow, I'd best be back to writing ... I'd like to get past 2000 today. :)

Right ... so, I would like a European city that has an old opera house and a large river. Details would be lovely, too ... if you know anything about the city, or the opera house, or you know, generally useful details. I'm not necessarily looking for "Oh, the ----- Opera House is on ---- Street, just between the bakery and the library," but more along the lines of details useful for writing, you know. Are the chandeliers absolutely fabulous, is it entirely red velvet and gilt, has it been restored, etc.

If you have any brilliant ideas of what opera(s) that I might choose, that would be fabulous as well. Simply fabulous ... oh, I do heart you muchly, darling flist.

Also, has the genealogy craze happened in Europe? If you want to trace your ancestors back to, I don't know, the 17th century, is it possible? How would you go about doing it?

While you are being so terribly helpful, can you interpret my strange results and do all of my experiments for today so that I can write? Pretty please? :)
